Say No-no! to squirrels with this all-metal, no-wood, no-plastic wire mesh feeder. The roof protects birds and feed and helps keep the seed dry. Although squirrels are very smart and persistent, they can't chew through the wire mesh. I would not be so bold as to say that no squirrel has ever defeated one of these, but in ten years using it I've never had a squirrel get one open or damage it. It's designed to appeal to cardinals, with a wide platform for them to perch on comfortably while feeding. We find that it invites many kinds of birds to our yard. One nice feature is that rain drips right on through, so you don't get a soggy buildup of wet seeds. The first photo shows a male Northern Cardinal and an American Goldfinch at the No/No feeder. See our REVIEW. It's a simple, inexpensive feeder, designed for black oil sunflower seeds. Water drains right through it, so the seed stays fresher. The mesh is made of metal, so squirrels don't have much luck with it. Although the manufacturer says it's designed for black oil sunflower seeds, here at Birdwatching Dot Com we fill it with hulled sunflower hearts. The birds just go nuts over them. It's always mobbed with goldfinches, woodpeckers, titmice, and chickadees. In summer, rose-breasted grosbeaks visit it every day.
