Troyer Horizontal Gourd - with Conley II Entrance and Wing Entrapment Guard is a great advance over earlier gourd designs for purple martin housing. The tunnel holes are highly startling resistant. Also resistant to raccoons and owls.

Each gourd is 14.5" deep, , our deepest gourd, for safety of the martin family. This gourd style of nesting cavity produces more fledgelings per nest than the traditional houses square-built houses, because there is more room inside for the martin family. Also, the UV-protected Polyethylene material is better for martins than aluminum. It's warmer in winter and cooler in summer.

Entrance It is not a mere hole, which predators and competitors could easily enter or reach in through. Instead it is starling-resistant entry tunnel, which leads to a tunnel about 3-1/2 inches long. Starlings have to stoop way down low to even look in, and they find it difficult to creep low enough to get in.

Traction Inside the tunnel is a traction tread that provides friction on the floor of the tunnel, making it easy for the martins to get in and out.

Porches Martins love the extra-wide porches, which give them a landing platform and let the babies venture out tentatively until they're ready to fledge.

Wing Entrapment Guard protects purple martins against getting stuck in the entrance. That used to happen sometimes in spring when martins were competing for gourds. But this device, which comes installed in every Troyer Horizontal Gourd, drastically reduces the danger of a bird getting a wing caught.

To vent the gourd, drill a ¼" hole into each mini canopy. Dimples on neck of gourd to guide you for gourd-line hanging.
